Swathy Krishna M. (2019 - )

Swathy is working on population genetics of tribal populations and indigenous ethnic groups across Southern India to unravel their ancestral origin. She also aims to uncover the underlying genetic markers modulated by their distinctive origin and migration histories that are likely associated with their susceptibility towards various disorders.

Projects carried out by interns, MSc students and undergraduate students

  1. Studying the putative association of host genetic tapestry and severity of COVID 19 manifestation (Gokul Suresh, 2021)

  2. Ancestry specific variation in Neurological and Psychological disorders among Indian populations. (Gaana Rukmini S. M. and Nishmitha K., 2020)

  3. Population genetic variation of serotonin transporter gene (SLC6A4), potentially associated with early life neurophysiological development. (MBBS students from Melaka Manipal Medical College, Manipal, Karnataka) (2019-2020)

  4. Developing Ancestry Informative Markers (AIMs) for Nigeria-Cameroonian Chimpanzee Population. (Anjana S., 2019)

  5. In silico identification of genetic modules in candidate genes that likely regulate longevity. (Pradivya S., 2019)

  6. Deciphering the best method to find out Ancestry Informative Markers (AIMs) in Gorillas. (Ria Roy, 2018)

  7. Obtaining the least number of SNPs containing the Ancestry Informative Markers (AIMs) of Gorilla. (Neha Venkatesh, 2018)

  8. Investigation of the evolution of ecto- and endo-symbiosis switch along the lineages of Southern Indian termites. (Prajna Udupa, 2017-2018)

  9. Assessing human mate preference dilemma from a multifactorial point of view. (Priya Kumari, 2016)

Pooja S. (2021 - )

Pooja is using a genome-wide association (GWAS) based approach to identify genetic variants that differ significantly between COVID-19 patients who are asymptomatic, show mild or moderate symptoms versus those with severe manifestation. She will also assess the putative association between the genomic ancestry of COVID-19 patients and the severity of COVID-19 manifestation.
